Finally finished and blocked the back of the bamboo yarn sweater tank top. Had no issues making the lace pattern on the bottom of the first piece, which must have been beginners luck because I tore out the bottom of the front no less than 5 TIMES!! Arghh! And then something finally clicked in my brain and I cranked out the pattern out in an hour or so. Now just knitting up in pattern until I reach the top. I may have to put this aside to make a special birthday present for Aidan.
Also, the single zebra finch chick just fledged out of the nest yesterday. You can tell it's a juvenile because it's beak is still dark brown, when it matures the beak will turn bright orange.

doggie quilt going to a good home
happy friday!
I sent a treasured item to a good home today, the doggie quilt. My DH teaches 4th grade and we decided the quilt would make a very nice addition to his classroom decor. It's sort of whimsical and a unique piece of home to have at work for DH. Another motivation for this is that I have finally come to terms with needing to revamp our kitchen decor. The bare white wall will hopefully motivate me to "get 'er done"!
freecycling
I had recently read an brief article about "freecycling", basically the concept is recycling by giving stuff away for free. There are online groups everywhere using email posting to "OFFER", "WANTED" and "TAKEN" items. I just signed on to a group in my area, immediately found a "WANTED" offer for something I had gathering dust in the garage for years! Then I posted "OFFER" items for a couple of other small items and within 10 minutes!! I had people emailing wanted those items. Whew! I have yet to make and actual freecycle transaction, so I will let you know how that works out.
While I love the idea of freecycling, I cannot but help wonder if I am getting suckered, that there are people simply getting stuff for free from suckers like me then turning around and selling it on eBay. Well, I guess in the end it doesn't matter that much because I don't really want to try to get rid of this small dollar stuff on eBay or Craigslist myself anyway.

beautiful baby
Lovely daughter and grandson, photo taken July 4th 2008. Daughter just had birthday August 25th and had first day of college classes, whew, big day. Baby boy will turn 1 on November 18th. Grandma is planning to visit them in Texas for Thanksgiving (hope they are ready for big hugs and lots of kisses).
DH's new toy
dear hubby (hereinafter referred to as DH) finally has his new toy. He has been slaving away at a second job and pining for this since January!
Day 1
Hi all,
this is the first blog I have ever attempted. Not sure how committed I will be to this effort as I have never maintained any sort of journal or diary for more than 5 sustained entries.
I am an average middle-aged, middleclass DINK. Knitting, sewing and reading are my favorite pastimes. I like digital photography as well, but not so much as an artform as a really powerful communication tool.
The general idea of this blog will be primarily as a "to do list", brag spot for completed stuff and to share stories and pictures with friends and family.
